PUBLIC WARNING – Architectural Glass Solutions Pty Ltd
17 September 2018
This is a warning issued by the Commissioner of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) to the public under section 20J(1)(i) of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991.
The QBCC has issued a public warning about defective building work performed by Architectural Glass Solutions Pty Ltd and the company’s director and nominee, Matthew Jeffrey Bradley.
The QBCC has identified unsafe and defective work performed by Architectural Glass Solutions Pty Ltd relating to the construction of a glass balustrade system on the balcony of a multi-storey residential building at the Sunshine Coast.
In particular, the QBCC has identified both the glass panels and safety rail to the balustrade system have not been constructed in accordance with an approved engineering design, nor the requirements of the relevant Australian Standard. As a result, the balustrade system on the balcony is unsafe.
The QBCC is aware Architectural Glass Solutions Pty Ltd may have carried out work in the suburb of Kings Beach on the Sunshine Coast.
The company and Mr Bradley no longer hold a licence with the QBCC.
The QBCC urges home owners who have previously contracted with Architectural Glass Solutions Pty Ltd to carry out building work including the construction of balustrade systems on balconies to consider whether the system:
- has been constructed in accordance with the approved plans for your property, and has been appropriately certified; and
- is structurally sound, and is safe for those residing in and occupying your property.
You can contact the QBCC if you are concerned about the construction of a balustrade system at your property, to request an inspection of potential defective building work.
Alternatively, QBCC recommends consumers consider engaging an appropriately qualified engineer to undertake an inspection.
In addition, if you are in doubt about whether the entity you are contracting with is licensed or holds the correct licence to do the work, please conduct a free online licence search at www.qbcc.qld.gov.au or contact the QBCC on 139 333.
