With a tap of a finger or a click of a mouse, home owners can use a free online directory to quickly and easily find licensed building contractors in their local area.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has updated and improved its free Find a Local Contractor online directory, making it faster and easier to locate a licensee, from airconditioning installers to waterproofers.

QBCC Commissioner Brett Bassett said the directory was particularly useful for owners when starting a building or renovation project, or when rebuilding after a natural disaster.

“The improved Find a Local Contractor directory helps home owners find local, licensed contractors, while also helping contractors to promote their businesses, free of charge,” Mr Bassett said.

“To search with your mobile phone, tablet or computer, you simply fill in the type of contractor required, your suburb or postcode and the radius you want to search.” Mr Bassett said search results included contact numbers, email addresses and website details and were also overlaid on Google maps, making it easier to view the locations of the local contractors.

QBCC-licensed contractors can register or update their listing on the free directory when they log in to their myQBCC account. Their website and contact details will be shown in any relevant search results, which gives them the opportunity to promote their business.

“Contractors who include their details in this free service can be seen by the hundreds of home owners who use the service each week,” Mr Bassett said.
